The Australian paceman has signed up for the Indian Premier League – and Glamorgan admit those commitments might prevent him from making his county debut until the visit of Derbyshire on May 14.

That would rule out Gillespie – who this week became Glamorgan’s overseas player for 2008 – from figuring in the opening two championship matches and half the Friends Provident Trophy zonal programme.

“It looks as if Jason’s going to do some bowling in the IPL, but we should get him on May 10,” said Glamorgan director of cricket Matthew Maynard.

“He could potentially miss the first month of the season, but we won’t look to get anyone else in.
